Ferrocene – antiknock additive

General information

Ferrocene, as a member of the sandwich compound class, is well-known for its antiknock capabilities all over the world. This gasoline additive has become quite popular due to its ease of use, environmental friendliness, and great efficiency. Ferrocene, like MMA and MTBE, is used to increase the octane number of gasoline.

Despite its primary usage as an anti-knock ingredient in gasoline, ferrocene is utilized in a variety of technical processes:

• polyethylene and diene rubbers as a thermal stabilizer;
• enables the creation of medications;
• During the combustion of diesel and fuel oil, it minimizes the amount of deposits, smoke, and soot;
• UV and high-temperature protection for polymers, as well as semiconductor characteristics;
• is required in the manufacture of dyes, pigments, and a variety of other compounds.

Composition of ferrocene

Organometallic substance dicyclopentadienyl iron (II). The chemical is water insoluble, but it dissolves readily in gasoline and diesel fuel, benzene, ether, and other organic solvents.

The powder is orange in color and has a camphor-like odor.

 

How much to weigh in grams?

The basic goal of ferrocene, as previously stated, is to increase the octane number. It takes roughly 170 grams of the product to boost the octane number of 1 ton of gasoline by 4–5 units.

It's worth noting that the precise dosage is determined via practice, as the treated fuel's qualities are crucial.

When combined with MMA and MTBE, ferrocene is the most effective.
